Getting onto your roof shouldn't require a ladder, a second person, or dirty shoes on the seat.

The EasyRoof AccessMaster hooks onto the striker bolt in your car door — that U-shaped metal fitting on the door frame — and gives you a solid step right where you need it. Load a kayak, strap down a cargo box, check your tie-downs, get into your rooftop tent, or just clean the roof without contorting yourself.

Open the door. Hook it on. Step up. Done.

It weighs 270 grams. Folds flat. Fits in your glovebox. You'll forget it's there until you actually need it.

How it works

1. Open your car door.
The striker bolt — the U-shaped fitting on the door frame — is right there, at door-latch height on the B-pillar.

2. Hook on the step.
Loop the EasyRoof over the striker bolt. Takes about two seconds.

3. Step up.
Push up, use the roof or rack to steady yourself. The hook grips the striker under load; it doesn't wobble.

4. Pack it away.
Unhook, fold flat, toss it in the cloth bag. Glovebox, door pocket, pack — wherever it fits.

What makes it work

Hooks onto the strongest point in your door frame.
The striker bolt is the component that keeps your door closed in a collision — a structural anchor, not a decorative fitting. Per SAE Document J839B (the US automotive standard for door latch systems), the striker bolt must withstand:

  • 2,000 lbs of horizontal force - sideways, what keeps your door closed in a crash.

  • 2,500 lbs of vertical force - straight down, the same direction as someone standing on the EasyRoof.

That's what this step hooks onto.

Rated to 310 lbs.
The EasyRoof itself is manufacturer-rated to 310 lbs / 140 kg. That's the platform, the hook, and the full assembly.

Non-slip platform — one foot, secure footing.
15.62 × 7.56 cm textured aluminum. You're not balancing on a peg; you're standing on a step.

Rubber-backed — won't mark your door frame.
Contact points are rubber-backed. Normal use won't scratch paint or the door frame.

270 grams. Stores anywhere.
Under 10 oz. Fold it flat, leave it in the car. Cloth storage bag included.

What people use it for

The most common use is loading gear onto a roof rack — kayaks, cargo boxes, bikes, skis, surfboards. One person, no ladder, no second pair of hands.

But it comes up in other ways:

  • Rooftop tent access — in and out without stepping on your seats
  • Snow removal — clearing the roof on a ski trip without standing on the vehicle
  • Washing the roof — reaching the center of a tall truck without stretching
  • Mid-trip adjustments — tie-downs, re-centering cargo, tightening straps

Bonus: the step includes a glass-break tip for emergency use. Useful to know about — not the reason you're buying it.

Will it fit your vehicle?

The EasyRoof works with any vehicle that has a standard U-shaped door striker bolt. Open your car door and look at the door frame — you'll see the U-shaped metal fitting. If it's accessible and sticks out from the frame, the step will work. Most SUVs, trucks, 4-door sedans, and wagons are fine.

Some vehicles have striker bolts that are flush with the frame, recessed, or a different shape. On those, the hook can't engage properly. If you're not sure, email us a photo of your striker bolt, and we'll tell you before you buy.

"No vehicle should be without one of these. Saves on a step ladder or clambering up there. Very sturdy and strong — I weigh 100kg and it handles my weight with ease. Has a rubber foot so it won't scratch the paintwork."

Common questions

It works with any vehicle that has a standard U-shaped doors striker bolt. Open your car door and look at the door frame - you'll see the U-shaped metal fitting. If it's accessible and sticks out from the frame, the step will work.

They are two different parts. The striker bolt is the U-shaped metal fitting bolted into the door frame (the B-pillar). The latch is the spring-loaded mechanism inside the door that grabs the striker when the door closes. this step hooks onto the striker - the frame-side component. It's sometimes called a "door latch step" in listings, but the striker bolt is what it actually attaches too.

The contact points are rubber-backed. In normal use it won't mark the door frame or paint.

Yes, on most 4-door vehicles. Rear door striker positions vary - some sit higher or ar a different angle. Same rule: if you can see and reach the U-shaped striker bolt, it'll work.

The step is manufacturer-rated 310 lbs / 140 kg. The striker bolt it hooks onto is governed by SAE Document J839B (the US automotive standard for door latch systems), which requires it to withstand:

  • 2,500 lbs of vertical force — straight down, the same direction as someone standing on the step
  • 2,000 lbs of horizontal force — sideways, what keeps your door closed in a crash

It's one of the strongest structural points in the door assembly.door assembly.
